Get Rid of Your Belly Fat

It seems that the term "Belly Fat" is all the rage right now. Everyone wants to lose it, fight it or turn it into a six pack. So, I figured that I better jump on the bandwagon with a belly fat article as well. It seems that all ab workouts are not created equal and some exercises that do not target the abs specifically could still work very well in reducing the fat in that area of the body that we would all like to shrink.

In doing research, one of the main tips that I found time and time again is that higher intensity is better for the fat in the belly region. Apparently when two groups burned the same amount of calories, those who burned them in shorter periods with higher intensity had significantly less belly fat than the group who took the slow and steady approach. Giving yourself that extra push can increase the hormones that help burn fat while at rest. Ab fat may be very susceptible to this effect.

After having two children, I never expected to lose that belly pudge that did not want to budge for at least the first 3 years post babies. Now, I cannot believe that my abs are in better shape at age 40 then before I had children. I have higher intensity workouts to thank for my results. Give it a try. Push a little harder with each of your upcoming workouts.

Have a fitness question? Let me know and I'll answer it in a future post.

I thought you could only lose belly fat through diet. It's interesting that in your 40's your abs are better by increasing the intensity

Ok, definitely will be trying to work harder on that goal. My belly fat after 3 kids is pretty bad for me. Love your blog and will be coming back for more inspiration and tips.

This is a great article... only this is, most women don't need to be told to step it up in their workouts. No. They need to be told to workout!! Hah. How do you find the time? --Michelle

Ah, the time question. That is when I recommend 10-minute Trainer. Every mom can find 10 minutes.

Like you, I got serious about fitness about 3 yrs after my last child was born and was in great shape until last May when I fractured my tibia. I've had a hard time getting back into a good fitness routine since then and have developed a disappointing new 'pudge' of my own. Your article and website have inspired me to recommit. I turn 40 next Feb and want to be able to say I am in the best shape of my life when I get to that important milestone. Thanks for the push!!
