It's all about THE CORE!

I'm sure you've heard it before, but working your core really is key to enhancing your overall health and fitness.

A weakened core can contribute to several health problems including stress; which in turn contributes to more health issues. Weak core muscles affect overall health and fitness.
Strengthening the core muscles goes beyond ab routines. Ab exercises are good exercises and should not be eliminated from your routine; they are just not enough to strengthen the core.
It is important that you have worked each muscle at least once a week and preferably three times a week.

Exercises to include in your routine could be:

  • Push ups
  • Crunches
  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • Back extensions
  • Plank and side plank exercise
Working all of the muscles in your core muscle group instead of focusing on the abdominal muscles will give you the stability and strength in the core to build on. Go CORE!

I played a little football in high school and college, and I often saw guys bulk up doing heavy squats and benching. However, when it came to their abs and core, they were flabby and not as strong as they could be.

I have a fifteen year old son, Dylan, who loves playing varsity football. I tell him, "If your core is not strong, it makes the rest of your body weak."

So work on that core!

Thanks for the visit. I agree we have to get back to basics and work on the core.
